Blog statistics for 2024

I have looked at the statistics for my blog for 2024 to see what I can learn from them and how I can improve in 2025. Here are my findings:

Summary:

In 2024, I wrote 84 blog posts, totalling 20,000 words. This resulted in 2,600 visitors (up 170% from the previous year) and 5,600 page views (up 131%).

The yearly statistics are interesting for me, in that I ‘retired’ from motorsport photography at the end of 2022, and yet visitors and views now seem to be on the increase, contrary to what I was expecting when taking into account the sheer quantity of motorsport images that I used to take. I suppose it proves the old adage that “quality is better than quantity”.

Another interesting fact is that the ‘Secret Ironbridge’ posts feature heavily in the Top 10. This was a project that I was planning to cease in 2025 – but it looks as if I will be changing my mind and continuing with it based on these results.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the vast majority of visitors originate from the UK. Of more interest is that 10% come from the USA.

A shock result is that Facebook was top of the list for referrers (i.e. what led them to the site), with general search engines coming a poor third. Instagram isn’t worth talking about.

Regarding the sharing of posts and images, Pinterest and LinkedIn surprised me being the top two destinations for a shared post, with Facebook a close third.

Disappointingly, the number of subscribers plateaued in 2024. This needs further investigation because it is strange how it seemed to stop abruptly at the start of the year.

Although these numbers are far from impressive in the grand scale of things, I am aware that it is a small specialist site that will only ever appeal to a minority. However, judging by the increase in visitors and views, I am clearly doing something right. There is work I can do, though:

  1. I need to continue with the ‘Secret Ironbridge’ project because it generates interest.
  2. I need to improve my search engine optimisation (SEO).
  3. I need to look at what changed at the start of the year to deter people from subscribing.

So a bit ‘thank you‘ to all those that paid my little web site a visit in 2024 and I hope to see you again regularly in 2025.
